About the event
As she prepares to marry King Marke, Isolde struggles against her growing inclination for Tristan, the King's nephew and loyal knight. But the death potion she prepares is replaced without her knowledge by a love potion. Lovers can then give free rein to their passion. An incandescent passion which cannot however be satisfied with a single carnal union. This burning love will only know its ultimate outcome in the death of the two lovers. When he wrote and composed this opera, the seventh, Wagner himself experienced a great love with the wife of his patron, Mathilde Wesendonck. The famous Celtic legend is for him the pretext for writing this long love poem, but also for the advent of a real musical drama. New director of the Festival d'Avignon, the poet, Portuguese actor and director Tiago Rodrigues signs his first opera production here. At his side, the Briton Leo Hussain conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the Opéra national de Lorraine.
